How Rockheads Group Built a Membership Platform That Actually Works

The Challenge

Rockheads Group had outgrown their technology. They were running a respected buying group for countertop fabricators, but their infrastructure couldn’t keep up with where they wanted to go.

The core problem wasn’t any single failure. It was that their entire tech stack was working against them. MemberClicks served as their primary platform, but it was fragmented, inflexible, and limiting what they could actually build.

A Platform That Couldn’t Integrate

They needed to connect their membership platform with HubSpot for proper marketing automation and member communication. It wasn’t possible with their existing setup. Simple integrations that most modern platforms handle natively required workarounds or weren’t available at all.

Every time they wanted to send mass emails, they had to manually export contact lists. Billing reminders went out manually. Event registrations didn’t sync anywhere. The platform wasn’t built to work with other tools, which meant their team was stuck doing manual work to bridge the gaps.

Design Limitations That Held Them Back

Their website didn’t reflect who Rockheads actually is. The design capabilities were limited. They couldn’t create the kind of member experience or brand presence they needed to position themselves as industry leaders. For an organization that provides serious value to fabricators through benchmarking, best practices, and group purchasing, their digital presence didn’t match.

No Central Resource Hub

Members and vendors had resources scattered across different platforms and email threads. There was no single place to find webinar recordings, best practices documentation, vendor information, or event details. If you wanted to find something specific, you were digging through old emails or asking staff to send it again.

For prospects trying to understand what Rockheads offers, the information wasn’t there. The site wasn’t built to help people discover the organization or understand the benefits of membership.

The Approach

We rebuilt everything. Not as a redesign project, but as a complete infrastructure overhaul focused on flexibility, integration, and user experience.

A Custom Membership Platform Built for Integration

We migrated Rockheads off MemberClicks entirely and built a custom membership platform using WordPress with MemberPress. The decision wasn’t about which platform was “better” in the abstract. It was about giving them a foundation they could actually build on.

The new platform includes:

Everything connects. When a member registers for an event, it updates their profile, syncs with HubSpot, and adds the event to their dashboard. When billing happens, reminders go out automatically. When a new member is approved, their access is granted instantly across the entire platform.

A Website That Positions Rockheads Properly

We designed a 20+ page site that establishes Rockheads as the industry authority they are. The site now includes dedicated sections for:

The design isn’t just visually stronger. It’s built to communicate value clearly to three distinct audiences: prospective members, current members, and vendor partners. Each has their own pathway through the site with the information they need most.

A Resource Hub Members Actually Use

We built a searchable content library where members can find webinar recordings, best practices documentation, and resources tagged by topic. Event recordings automatically populate the library. Documents upload once and stay organized.

For vendors, we created a dedicated benefits page template and directory that makes it easy for members to find and connect with partners.

The site became the single source of truth for everything Rockheads. No more digging through emails. No more asking staff to resend information. Everything lives in one place that’s easy to search and navigate.

Discoverability for Growth

We optimized the site for prospects who are searching for buying groups, fabricator networks, or industry resources. The content architecture and SEO structure help qualified fabricators find Rockheads when they’re looking for what the organization provides.

Application pathways are clear. Information about membership benefits is detailed and easy to understand. The site does the work of explaining what Rockheads is and why it matters.

The Results

A Platform That Finally Integrates

The HubSpot integration transformed how Rockheads communicates with members and prospects. Marketing automation, email campaigns, and member communications now run through a system built for it. The team estimates they save 15+ hours per month on tasks that are now automated.

Contact management went from a manual export process to automatic syncing. Billing reminders, event notifications, and member updates happen without staff intervention.

Members and Vendors Have a Hub They Use

Within the first quarter after launch, resource library usage showed that members were actually finding and using the content. Event registration increased because the process became simple. Vendors reported that the directory and benefits structure made it easier to connect with the right members.

The site became what it was supposed to be: the primary place members go for information, resources, and connection.

Brand Positioning That Reflects Reality

The new site positions Rockheads as what they are—a serious organization providing real value to fabricators. The design, content structure, and user experience communicate authority and professionalism.

For prospects researching buying groups, Rockheads now stands out. The site explains the benefits clearly, showcases the community, and makes it easy to understand why membership matters.

Payment Processing That Works

The ACH payment failures that frustrated members in the old system disappeared. Members can manage their own billing, update payment methods, and handle subscriptions directly from their dashboard. Payment processing became invisible, which is exactly what it should be.

"We finally have a platform that works the way we need it to work. Our members can find what they need. Our team isn't stuck doing manual tasks. And we can actually integrate with the tools we want to use. The difference is night and day."
 — Rockheads Group Leadership Team

What Made This Work

This project succeeded because we understood what a membership organization actually needs: flexibility, integration, and a member experience that doesn’t require staff intervention for every interaction.

We didn’t just move them to a new platform. We built infrastructure that supports how they operate and where they want to grow. The website establishes their brand position. The membership system handles the operational complexity. The integrations connect everything so it actually works together.

When you’re running a membership organization, your technology should enable growth, not limit it. It should save time, not create work. And it should reflect the value you provide to members.

That’s what we built for Rockheads.
